It's 10 am, in a lucky sunny day of a very rainy spring.I'm arriving with my friend in a sweet little village called San Quirico, in Val d'Orcia area.Getting out of the car I 'm enjoying the feeling of a very warm sun, that my italian skin has been craving since some time.On that sunday I was supposed to meet with Marco and Francesca our two special guides for the day. It's the very first time I meet them, I only spoke with Marco by the phone, and he seemed like a very easy going man, with a friendly attitude and that sparkle of glee often italian men do have.Punctual, smiling and very well equipped they welcomed us to this new one-day-bike-adventure through the majestic landscape of Val d'Orcia.
They set up everything to get us ready for our Private Tour (only me and my friend).First stop is right here in the village of San Quirico for a first 20 minutes introduction about the coming hours and the private bike-tour.I actually shouldn't use the word 'tour' as it sounds so tour--istic! What I would have experienced in the coming hours is pure fun with friends.I'll start saying that my bike was an eco-bike (I chose it instead of the normal, mountain or race ones) and it was my very first time useing it. After 30 seconds I realized that it was going to be crazy fun and easy, because an eco-bike is like a motor-bike but without the noisy part and way slowlyer! Then we started: we took the first slope and the show began!
Strong wind against you, up and down the hills one after the other. No stress at all: the super powers of my eco-bike just made a super bike-hero out of me !Twenty minutes passed by, I turn my head and I see this: poppy and yellow flowers fields, just on the edge of an amazing landscape where the way to describe I often use is: an ocean of green waves. And on the top of some of the 'waves', those typicals rural houses we have here in Tuscany.Stareing at that panorama, we stop and we let Francesca reach us from behind, in the van, carrying us fresh drinks and fruit.
It was kind of relaxing to be such a small group of friends. Now that I did it I know it wouldn't have been the same with a larger group, with different needs and times. Stopping wherever we wanted and riding free, following none else's needs but ours.
If you feel you want your time to cherish, explore or simply rest the password is. Go Private !
It's time for abandoning the regular street and we get down on the dirt roads, where the real magic begins. If that day you were on my insta-stories, you must remember the deep green landscape, surrounded by silence and clouds. Nothing. There was nothing but us there. I found my-self in that special moment in which you start having a comfortable feeling while remebering you had a hard week until some hours ago, but in the present moment, in that place, after some time biking you feel really really well.I enjoyed the presence of Marco which can be such a proper "host" along these bike-trips. You can have very interesting conversations together, as much as a very respectful and nice silence, only following your rythms.
And to be treated 100% "Francesca the fairy" drives somewhere not far behind you appearing like magic with any kind of remedies for your needs also like food and drinks (including those sunglasses I completly forgot and which saved my eyes from on million flyes ...!).
Then back again for the ride, reaching from one village to the other as I only have been doing by car until that moment!
It's nice to notice that if you give your-self time to slow down, things are way closer to you than what you expect.Reaching from San Quirico d'Orcia, to Pienza only with my bike gave me another perspective about that 'distance', which is no more dividing places. Travelling with a bike or even on foot connects places together. Have you ever tried?
I am a supporter of the "slow-way", beacuse it reflects Nature rythms and leads to a better knowledge about the surroundings, contrasting with a mass-tourism which is careing about fastness and quantity. Go local, go private, go slow ;)
If you feel curious about all this, you should check what Marco and Francesca can do for you as they only arrange Private tours for you alone, you and your friends or family.
The sunday we had together felt just like being around with a friend who is well aware of the territory and who perfectly knows what to do here in Tuscany, when to be where, and why.We ended the trip on an afternoon italian gelato, chatting and resting before coming back home.
In the evening I felt grateful for that freshness in my lungs, and also in my eyes after a no-stop 'landscape-shower' !
And least but not last, both the feelings where enhanced by the easy day my mind had, with no planning, no thinking of where to go, which time to be where, none to wait for along the way, friends around to share with.
Francesca and Marco took care of everything.
Thank you to Tuscany.Bike for the most awesome private bike trip in Tuscany I have ever had.

An accurate description of my latest choices regarding Florence's Typical Restaurants!
In summer 2019 I discovered Trattoria Il Trebbio and Osteria Belle Donne a few steps away from Florence main train station in full city center.

A short tale of my first dinner in the oldest restaurant in Florence: Ristorante Paoli.
The place is opened since 1827 and it belongs to Florence's history, witnessed by the famous Book of the Guests where all costumers of 2 centuries left their reviews.
Right into the historical city center and with a high quality and typical Florentine cuisine. Don't miss the chance to have dinner at Paoli's when in Florence!
